Gilleleje Bed & Breakfast at Høveltegård
Høveltegård is uniquely located on the border between country and town in the western part of Gilleleje. 5 min. by bike and you are up at Gilleleje Harbor and we have the bikes. You will find a wonderful combination of modern comfort, rustic countryside and old-world charm. In the garden around the small lake with its own island and tea house, there is a beautiful view of the open fields to the west. There are many cozy nooks and plenty of space, and it is a paradise for nature lovers and nostalgic souls.
Based on Høveltegård’s well-appointed rooms and holiday apartments, Gilleleje Harbor, more than 20 restaurants and cafés, shopping, the beaches and the many holiday opportunities close by. North Zealand sights are within a short distance, castles, hiking and biking and Copenhagen is only 65 km. gone. Your hostess Charlotte knows the whole thing the area.
Høveltegård was originally named Høveltgaard named after a field “Høveltager” northwest of the farm. My grandparents added one to make it more mundane.
The story behind Høveltegård
Høveltegård is owned and run by 3rd generation Charlotte Thomsen. I grew up here and my parents Bent and Ester Thomsen, who had the farm from 1970-2002, started renting out rooms all the way back to the 70s, so it is a family tradition.
My children Malou and Philip Thomsen grew up here and it is a place we are very happy about and it can be seen and felt.
My grandmother and grandfather Ellen and Oskar Thomsen bought Høveltegård in Fjellenstrup in 1938 and ran a traditional farm on the 43 tdl. land with 24 dairy cows, pigs, ducks, geese, chickens and horses and a magnificent farm garden. Gilleleje moved closer, especially from 1970, when the next generation Thomsen moved in. It has been a wonderful childhood at Høveltegård with animals and freedom, space and high to the sky.
The last street light is at the driveway and even though Gilleleje is still moving closer, we enjoy the unique location right on the border of country and city and with a view over the 20 tdl. land to the west. Just a short bike ride and we are at the harbor in Gilleleje. Yes, we love the area and our farm and from the hostess you have a rare opportunity to get fif and inspiration to enjoy beautiful North Zealand.
